In the exhibition project Car Keys, Ondřej Kotrč responds to the unique context of the gallery, located in a space that once served as a garage. This seemingly straightforward fact serves as a springboard for presenting a series of artifacts that exhibit a remarkable range of variability – both in form and content. Kotrč approaches the garage as a commonplace, utilitarian space, yet one that often houses forgotten or discarded objects, relics of a past that are no longer so common. At the same time, he views the garage through a more personal and introspective lens, as a place tied to childhood games and boyhood fantasies.
The title Car Keys does not refer directly to the car industry but rather to the artist's own connection to the idea of the "garage" itself. It becomes a metaphorical reference to the search for an inner key – a way to determine what truly belongs in Kotrč's imagined garage and what does not.
